If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don't,
If you like to win, but you think you can't,
It is almost certain you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost,
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will.
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But soon or late the man who wins,
Is the man who thinks he can.
I think the poem above is trying to say that if we want to be victorious, we must believe in ourselves. If we're not confident, we can't be successful. Also, the poem expresses how, if we don't try, we can't achieve anything.Doing something is a lot better than doing nothing. If you think you'll be a failure you will. It's all in your state of mind.
Completely agree, and I was brought up with that mentality.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately in my Sociology class last week my professor told us a story about research done on African American and Caucasian students. While the AAs had positive mentalities and thought they could fight their way out of the ghetto, the Cs didn't believe in the self-fulfilling prophecy. The study followed the young'uns and checked in on them at the end to see where they ended up. Sadly, the AAs were still in the ghetto and the Cs were right where they had started out. Very few escaped their social classes!
